Year 5
Welcome to Year 5, it is an exciting step into upper Key Stage 2 (ages 9–10) where we will ensure all children are encouraged to build greater independence, confidence, and take more ownership of their learning. Children will engage in a broad and balanced curriculum, balancing creative and academic activities. We are committed to ensuring that all children achieve to the best of their ability, support will be implemented to ensure all individual needs are met.
What to Expect in the Classroom;
As children adapt to more complex topics, the curriculum places a greater focus on deeper critical thinking, reasoning, and responsibility.
- English: Pupils learn to tailor their writing for different audiences and purposes using advanced grammar (such as relative clauses) and develop deeper reading comprehension skills.
- Maths: The curriculum tackles broader mathematical concepts including working with larger numbers (up to 1,000,000), fractions, decimals, percentages, and early geometry.
- Science: Children tackle more abstract concepts like Earth and space, reversible/irreversible changes, and plan their own scientific investigations.
