Admissions
Thank you for considering Gascoigne Primary School for your child’s primary education. You are very welcome to visit the school to have a look for yourself and meet our very friendly team. Visits to the school can be arranged by contacting the school’s main office. One of our Admin Team will usually lead a tour of the school and a member of the Senior Leadership Team will also be pleased to meet you.
If your child has additional or special educational needs or disabilities, our Inclusion Managers would also be happy to meet with you to discuss provision for your child.
Our school is currently 5 forms of entry with Nursery provision. Our intake for each year group will therefore eventually be 150 with 2 Nursery classes.
Nursery Admissions
At Gascoigne there are four types of Nursery places available. When a parent completes an application form they must select which place they prefer. The school will try to support the parent request, however, if the chosen option is full the parent will be offered a different place or be placed on the waiting list.
At Gascoigne Term we operate in Time Only. Our school nursery offers 15 hours (universal) or 30 hours (extended) over 38 weeks in the year. The timings are available below;
- 15 hours free – Mornings only – Monday to Friday 8:30 – 11:30
- 15 hours free – Afternoons only – Monday to Friday 12:30 – 3:30
There is no charge for these places. All children are eligible to apply.
A piece of fruit and milk is provided. Lunch is not provided.
30 hours free (With eligible code) - Monday to Friday 8:30 – 3:30
There is no charge for this place upon receipt of a valid 30 hour code. The code must be given to the school the term prior to the place starting.
Schools do not charge for fruit, milk or lunch at school. The children will be given a school dinner or parents can choose to bring a packed lunch.
Top-up paid place (additional 4 hours a day for the week)
A parent/ carer can choose, if there is space available, to purchase the additional 20 hours each week to create a FT place. (8:30 – 3:30)
We charge £30 per day for an additional 4 hours a day. This totals £150 per week. The school does not charge for lunch, it is provided as part of the additional payment.
Payment is made through ParentPay.
Parents must commit to 4 week blocks. Absence does not lower the invoice total.
Eligibility for places
The school will check original copies of documentation to confirm a child has reached the relevant age on initial registration for all free entitlements.
-
Birth certificates
-
Proof of address
-
Council tax bill
-
Utility bill or bank statement
The school will retain paper or digital copies of documentation to enable the local authority to carry out audits and fraud investigations. Where a provider retains a copy of documentation this must be stored securely and deleted when there is no longer a good reason to keep the data.
Parents can apply for a 30 hour code here - https://www.gov.uk/free-childcare-if-working/apply-for-free-childcare-if-youre-working
The Eligibility Checking Service (ECS) allows all local authorities to make instant checks for code validity.
Parents must reconfirm their eligibility each term. They will receive confirmation about the next term. This must be shared with the school.
When to apply for 30 hours of free childcare
You can apply from when your child is 23 weeks old. When you can get your hours from will depend on the date your child turns 3 years old.

A place at Gascoigne Primary school’s Nursery does not constitute a place within our Reception cohort. Applications for all Reception cohort places are made through LBBD admissions.
The school operates a first come, first serve basis on places. However, a child may be prioritised for a place based on the following criteria;
1. Looked After Children (LAC) (Children in Public Care)
2. Children of staff at Gascoigne Primary school
3. Siblings - Children who have a brother or sister attending Gascoigne Primary school at the beginning of their first term
4. Vulnerable children – as defined by the school
5. Proximity – proximity as measured in a straight line from the front door of the home to the front door of the school
Charging / Payments
At Gascoigne we do not charge for the following;
-
Fruit (daily)
-
Milk (daily)
-
Lunch (If attending 30 hour place or a top up payment place) See section 2
If your child requires nappies or wipes, these must be provided by the parents/ carers.
At Gascoigne we charge for a top-up place which is for parents not eligible for the 30-hour code who wish to increase their child’s Nursery place beyond the free 15 hours a week. Please see section 2.
There is a voluntary contribution for cooking and consumables, there is no set amount, and this can be paid directly to the class.
On occasion, there will be a small charge for trips or extra-curricular activities, such as a theatre visit to the Nursery. These will always be communicated to parents in advance.

Nursery Transfer to Reception
Please note that your child does not automatically transfer from nursery to reception.
This process is different as we can not accept admissions directly to the school unlike in nursery. From Reception onwards, you will need to submit your admission to LBBD for them to progress your placement further.
You will receive a booklet via the Nursery Class Teacher; you will need to apply online for your child's place. No places are guaranteed, and you must apply even if your child has a place in our nursery. If you do not follow the process in the booklet, you put your chance of getting a place at your preferred school at risk.
To apply for a place online, you can follow this link to the LBBD webpage that will instruct you on how to apply:
In-Year Admissions
The Admissions Team at LBBD will process your application within 10 school days of receiving your application. These applications are for those who are changing schools during the school year, such as moving to a new borough etc.
The In-Year Admission applications can be found on the LBBD Website in the link below:
