Welcome to Year 4 and Vert Class,
Year 4 is a very exciting year group to be in. We read adventurous and exciting books in Whole Class Reading and we engage in some brilliant Art work units.
Further to support high standards both in Maths and English we ensure that daily focus is given to children learning their multiplication facts and the Year 3 /Year 4 Spelling words.
In the Autumn Term in WCR we start with the Demon Dentist. This is a hilarious funny book written by David Walliams. Later in Autumn 2, we read The Saga of Erik the Viking. This is the tale of a Viking warrior by the name of Erik. But Erik is no ordinary Viking. With his trusty band of men he sets sail in search of the land where the sun goes at night - but he finds much more! The Sea Dragon, Dogfighters and giants combine to make his voyage a great saga of thrilling adventures.
I am very much looking forward to reading with you but also I love art and in the Spring Term you will have the opportunity to study Mountains and Rivers through the eyes of the impressionist artists. The aim of the impressionists was not to paint a reflection of real life, but an ‘impression’ of what the person, light, atmosphere, object or landscape looked like to them. Check out Claude Monet if you have time. He was one of the famous impressionist artists.
In the Summer term our focus in WCR is on Oceans. We learn fascinating environmental facts and the importance of protecting our Oceans. In reading in the second half of the Summer Term we study the Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. The poem, set in 18th-century rural England, tells the story of an unnamed Highwayman who is in love with Bess, a landlord's daughter.
As you can see, the year ahead is full of stimulating learning. I look forward to meeting you all in September.
