Purpose   

To take turns and listen to what others have to say. 

 

Vocabulary:  

illustration, weather, hot, different, experience, inference, Lil, rain, burn, carefully breeze, relieved 

 

 

 Starter: Show  images of different weather.  

 

Adult: Ask children to select which type of weather they like best and explain why.  

  

Model: I like it when the weather is... because...  

 

Adult: I wonder what would happen if the sun shone every day and it never rained?  

 Take responses from children 

  

Display the first double-page spread of the book 

 

 Ask the children to talk about what they notice.  Children to share first impressions and explore the setting and the weather.  

 Explain that the story is set in Kenya,  East Africa and show children where this is using the google map. 

Share some facts about Kenya with children 

 

Activity 

Children to write three facts about Kenya
