Learning Objective: To participate in discussions about what is read, taking turns and listening to others.
Success Criteria:
Purpose of learning: To develop children’s vocabulary and understanding, whilst participating in discussions about a story.
Vocabulary: Pattan, Kanni, creatures, story, beginning, middle, end, events
Starter: Discuss the importance of the title to the story- the title is the reader's first impression of the book or text. It creates anticipation, expectation and it determines whether a person should read the story or not.
Activity 1
Read the story up to where Pattan, Kanni and the creatures fled in the pumpkin. The story says it rained for a lengthy period of time. What do you think happened during their time in the pumpkin? How did the animals feel? What about Kanni and Pattan?
Continue reading the story and pause at the page where the animals were basking in the sunshine.
Discuss: How do you think the animals felt? How do you know?
