Purpose of learning:
To participate in discussions about a story.
Vocabulary:

Starter:
Explore the features of the a book- look at the front over, read the title and the blub. Read first 2 pages of the text and predict what the story might be about.
Main lesson
Read the story and pause at the page where Kanni and Pattan were filling their sacks with grains, seeds and herbs; using different tone of voice to express your feelings about what is happening.
Pause at different pages to discuss the events so far and also to explain the meaning of new words.
Discuss event in the story using the questions below as prompt.
Key questions:
What is the title of the story?
Can you name any character from the story?
Where did the story happen?
Where did Pattan, Kani and the animals hide when it was raining?
Why did they hide in the pumpkin?
Why did they cut the prickly stem from the plant?
