Read your available BUG CLUB BOOK and answer the comprehension questions.

 

Remember to use your reading skills:

 

  • Fred Talk unfamiliar words. E.g- f-r-o-g
  • Slide the syllables together. E.g fr og becomes frog.
  • Chunk new words before putting them together to read. E.g book-let becomes booklet
  • Refer to the illustrations (pictures) for clues
  • Use the Read to me function to listen to the pronunciation of difficult words.
  • Re-read words and sentences you’re unsure of to grasp the meaning.
  • Most of all, write down new vocabulary and search for their meaning in dictionaries.
  • Make sure you answer all the comprehension questions (quiz questions). This will help you to interpret the meaning of what you have read and also to practise your decoding skills.

  • I can predict and explain my reasoning.

 

 

Purpose: To enable your child to actively think ahead and ask questions.

 

Vocabulary: predict, explain, because, visitor grocer 

 

Hook 

A tea party scene-set up using a teapot, cups and saucers, plates, cupcakes, biscuits, cookies etc.

 

Discuss basic etiquette and manners of eating and sharing food. Share your tea party or party experiences. How did you feel? Which part was the best?
 

 

Introduce the book/text: title, front cover, blurb, author. Discuss the purpose of these features.

Read up to where Sophie opens the door for the Tiger.  Predict what might happen next. Use questions below as prompts. Encourage your child to speak in full sentences in the correct tense. 

 

 

Key questions:  

  • What do you think will happen next? Why? 
  • Do you think it is safe for the Tiger to come in? Why? 
  • Do tigers visit people’s homes? is this story real or made up?
  • Do tigers speak? 
  • Did Sophie do the right thing by letting the tiger in? Why do you say so?

Task

To predict what might happen next based on what they have seen, read or heard.
