Dear Children,

Today we get to celebrate our fantastic reading effort and we're very impressed with how much you've challenged yourselves to meet your reading target of 10 books this week.

We will celebrate your reading effort at 3 o'clock today, where there'll be an overall winner, a winning class and the best book review.

As you read today, remember to discuss events or information in the book that you have read with your adult so you get a better understanding of what you've read before writing your review.

In as much as you love reading, we'll ask that you try to read and write at least 2 book reviews everyday and share with your class teacher on Seesaw. Today's book reviews will be added on to next weeks, and will be celebrated on Friday.

Our Reading Champions for today, will be the child or children who have read and written quality book reviews throughout the week......I just can't wait to see who the winners are! Good luck!

We've attached a Book Review template for your reference. You do not have to print the template to use for your review, try and create your own using the prompts on the template; then, ask your adult to take a picture and share on Seesaw with your class teacher.

Now, are you ready for another day of exciting reading?

Remember to use your reading skills

  • Fred Talk unfamiliar words. E.g- f-r-o-g
  • Slide the syllables together. E.g fr og becomes frog.
  • Chunk new words before putting them together to read. E.g book-let becomes booklet
  • Refer to the illustrations (pictures) for clues
  • Use the Read to me function to listen to the pronunciation of difficult words.
  • Re-read words and sentences you’re unsure of to grasp the meaning.
  • Most of all, write down new vocabulary and search for their meaning in dictionaries.
  • Now, answer all the comprehension questions (quiz questions). This will help you to interpret the meaning of what you have read and also to practise your decoding skills.
  • You can write a review about your book and share with us.

Don't forget to email us if you need help.
