Poetry Competition 2014

July 2014

Gascoigne win the prestigious Barking and Dagenham Poetry Recital Competition at the first attempt!

A huge well done to our Year 5 poetry group, who have won the well contested Barking and Dagenham Poetry Recital Competition with an outstanding performance in the final at Ripple Primary School.

Gascoigne have never entered this challenging competition before and the pupils came through the heats with glowing reports from the judges. In a tense final (in front of the Channel 5 cameras) the pupils rose to the challenge, performing each of the three poems with confidence, passion and huge amounts of enthusiasm.

We are so proud of the pupils who showed the necessary determination and creativity to ensure that the judges would award them the highly coveted title. Our poetry team was selected from across Year 5, and really rose to the challenge against mainly Year 6 pupils in the final.

Our winning entry consisted of performances of:

“”Mary Celeste” by Judith Nicholls

“Playgrounds” by Berlie Doherty

“For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon

Well done everyone! This is a fantastic achievement, which you should all be very proud of.
