Afternoon Message 8th June 2020

 

Hi All,

          I hope you've had a wonderful day. It was really nice to see children returning to school today. 

 

Please ensure that you read your class announcements on seesaw, as these will be personalised to your class. It is extremely important for you all to keep up with the timetabled learning activities on this page.  I hope that you enjoyed reading the next chapter of 'The Ickabog'- I'm really enjoying the story so far! I wonder what 'The Ickabog' is and what it looks like. What are your thoughts about  King Fred?

Summarise the main points from Chapters 1-8.

Read Chapter 9-The Shepherd's story from JK Rowling's (author of the Harry Potter series) new book- The Ickabog-https://www.theickabog.com/read-the-story/ (make sure that you take into account the punctuation when reading)

 

Answer the reading comprehension questions below:

Why did King Fred wave his handkerchief beneath his nose?

How did King Fred feel about the Marshlander's punctuality?

Why did King Fred agree to see the Marshlander even though he was late?

How did Lords Spittleworth and Flapoon feel about the Old Man? Use evidence from the text.

Read the paragraph describing the old man. Explain your first impressions of him.

Who imitated the Old Man? Was he right to do so?

What did the Old Man reveal to the King?

Why did the king resist the urge to laugh?

Where will the new hunt be, that the King mentions at the end of the chapter?

 

Writing

In Chapter 9, we have seen how hard King Fred is trying to be supportive of the people in his kingdom even though his friends are not supportive of his plan-Lords Spittleworth and Flapoon are clearly disgusted by the Old man and stunned that he has decided to go and hunt for 'The Ickabog.'

 

 In role as his mother,write a letter of encouragement to King Fred. The letter should demonstrate sympathy for King Fred, in light of what happened with the seamstress. Additionally, don't forget to praise King Fred for trying to listen to Old Man and taking his concerns seriously. Furthermore, think about 'his friends.' What would a parent say about their behaviour. Are they good role models? Does king Fred need them?

 

Don't forget to use the range of y6 punctuation in your response. ! , : ; ? ( ) " ".  In your paragraph use different types of sentences, simple; compound and complex.

 

Remember you should be proof-reading and editing your work throughout the writing process and one final time when you have finished.

If you are finding it difficult, you can use your CGP study guides to help you; re-watch the videos or look for other online tutorials (Khan Academy and Mathantics are good places to start).
