Afternoon Message – Monday 30th March 2020

Hello Year 6,

I hope you’ve had a good day full of learning. I hope you’re all trying your best. Remember it’s really important to continue all the effort and hard work you put into school, at home. I have no doubt you’re all trying really hard and putting in lots of effort.

Have you checked your answers to the reading paper using the mark scheme? For any mistakes you have made, make sure you re-read the question and the reading paper to get a better understanding of what you did wrong.

For Science, twinkl have some great science resources on light. Just search for them! You can always do some extra research and create a poster on this topic?

Make sure you take some time out for yourself to do the things you really enjoy. Try and get as much fresh air as possible too!

Morning Message - Monday 30th March 2020

Good morning Year 6! I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. The clocks went forward in the early hours on Sunday morning which now means that it will be much lighter in the mornings and evenings.

It’s your second week of home learning so hopefully you should be able to navigate the website and resources like a pro! The first thing you need to do is read through the weekly timetable. You need to check this everyday so that you know which activities you need to complete. Remember, if you need anything at all, please email me using the contact form on the main Year 6 page and I will try to get back to you as quick as I can!

Daily Timetable/Activities

Reading

Read for at least 20 minutes. This could be your school reading book, a home book, Bug Club or another text you enjoy. Identify any new and unknown vocabulary and find the definitions. Make sure you’re answering the bug club questions properly as your teachers can see the answers and respond to you. Complete the reading comprehension in Monday’s folder and mark it after with the work scheme.

 PE

Complete the daily Joe Wicks (The Body Coach) PE lesson.

Visit his YouTube channel here:

https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/videos

Maths

Visit the White Rose Maths website here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/

Please complete Lesson One (calculating scale factors). You can watch the video first to help you, then complete the worksheet and mark it. If you are finding it difficult, re-watch the video or look for other online tutorials (Khan Academy and Mathantics are good places to start).

Writing

You will be writing a non-chronological report. Begin to research ways in which we can help to save the planet. You need to gather as much information as you can to help you write it in the next few days. Also have a look at other non-chronological reports on this website https://www.literacywagoll.com/non-chronological-report.html. It will give you a really good idea of what to write and how to structure your work. Today, you will be gathering all the information you can and tomorrow will be planning. REMEMBER, don’t just copy and paste the information of websites this needs to be your own work!

EXTRA CHALLENGE – I want to add the features of a non-chronological report to the school website to help you with your writing tomorrow. BUT, I am going to set you the challenge of identifying the features. If you can identify them then please email them to me (Rdushku@gascoigne.co.uk) and I will post them on the website this evening with your name attached . You have until the end of the day.

SPaG

Practise your weekly spellings. Copy them into your home learning book and write their definitions.

Complete the SPaG activity in the folder. There is a Powerpoint which you can work through to show you how to answer the questions. You can then work on the varied fluency questions. Select either 'Developing', 'Expected' or 'Greater Depth' depending on how confident you are with the topic. You can then mark your work and move onto the application and reasoning sheet.

Science

Complete the shadow investigation. There is also a powerpoint to introduce the topic.
