Afternoon Message - Friday 24th April 2020

Good afternoon Year 6! I hope you have enjoyed your work today and are looking forward to having a restful weekend.

I would like to round off the week by passing on a shout-out from Ms Dushku. She has asked me to mention Shruthika from Ouro class. She is so impressed by the amount of work that Shruthika has sent to her, as well as the excellent quality of the work which is being produced at home. We are going to make sure that some of this work is uploaded on the website for you all to see. Well done Shruthika and keep up the fantastic work!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and we will speak again on Monday. :)

Morning Message - Friday 24th April 2020

Good morning and happy Friday!

This morning you will be finishing off the final section of your comprehension paper. Make sure yoy have marked them all across the week so that you can add your scores together to get your total score for this practise paper.

You will also be rewriting one of your paragraphs of your diary entry. This is the final editing and improving step. Choose your least favourite paragraph to rewrite. Remember, you don't have to change the entire paragraph. You might have some fantastic sentences within that paragraph which you would like to keep, however rewriting the entire paragraph gives you more opportunities to improve your writing that a regular editing session!

Have a great day and remember to email me with any queries or with your fantastic homelearning - sberry@gascoigne.co.uk

Daily Timetable/Activities

Reading

Read for at least 20 minutes. This could be your school reading book, a home book, Bug Club or another text you enjoy. Identify any new and unknown vocabulary and find the definitions.

Complete the third section ('Throwing a Tree') of the reading comprehension test and mark it.

PE

Complete the daily Joe Wicks (The Body Coach) PE lesson.

Visit his YouTube channel here:

https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/videos

Maths

Visit the White Rose Maths website here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/

Please complete Lesson Five (Friday Maths Challenge). You can watch the video first to help you, then complete the worksheet and mark it. If you are finding it difficult, re-watch the video or look for other online tutorials (Khan Academy and Mathantics are good places to start).

Writing

You should have now completed your diary and edited and improved it by now. For the final stage of the editing process, we would like you to select the paragraph which you feel is the weakest and rewrite it. Make sure you think really carefully about how you can make your writing emotive and engaging. Use the checklists below to improve the quality of your paragraph.

SPaG

Practise your weekly spellings. Copy them into your home learning book and write their definitions.

Complete the SPaG activity below. There is a Powerpoint which you can work through to show you how to answer the questions. You can then work on the varied fluency questions. Select either 'Developing', 'Expected' or 'Greater Depth' depending on how confident you are with the topic. You can then mark your work and move onto the application and reasoning sheet.

History

This half term, in history we are studying the Kingdom of Benin. For today's session, please read through the PowerPoint and make notes on the history of the Kingdom of Benin. This will give you some good background information around the kingdom which you will be able to use across the rest of the half term.
