Good afternoon, year 6! The year 6 teachers would just like to give you a huge round of applause for completing the first week of distance learning. You've been brilliant!
How did you find the learning today? I enjoyed my PE lesson this morning.
I'm looking forwards to reading your flashback stories. Don't forget you can still read your 'Bug Club' books; complete Mymaths tasks and TT Rockstars.
Please continue to use the contact form to stay in touch and share your learning with us.
When requesting your login details, please remember to include your name, class and the website for which you require the logins for.
I'm excited for the weekend. Tomorrow night, I'm planning on having a costume night. We're going to dress up in our costumes and play board games. Perhaps, I'll have an indoor picnic on Sunday afternoon.
I look forwards to hearing about your plans.
Don't forget to check out the timetable and lessons for next week.
Hello everyone and happy Friyaay! :)
Just some help with the maths today (I know some of you don't have squared paper but you can still complete this work.)
Here is help with how to complete the first question:
Use the squares to help calculate the sides of the rectangle. So one of its sides is 5 squares and the other side is 2 squares. Think of the squares as being 1cm each. So the rectangle below is 5cm by 2cm. If I am making this rectangle twice as big I need to multiply the sides by 2. so 5x2= and 2x2 =
So the new rectangle you need to draw will be?

Good morning, year 6! Happy Friday! It’s Mrs. Iqbal here. I hope that you’ve had a good night's sleep and are feeling fresh and ready for another day's learning! By now you have established your learning routine and are familiar with the layout of the website and the lessons that you are required to complete.
Today's learning will begin with you reading a book. Have you read to someone , this week? If not, try that today. Read to your parents or siblings. Don't forget to pause at the punctuation and remember to model good levels of fluency.
In your reading comprehension paper, focus on completing section 3. Don't forget to use your skimming and scanning techniques.
I'll be joining you at 9am, for PE with Joe Wicks. It's a really energising workout, which will enable us to clear our minds and focus on our maths which is based on 'Scale factors.' Please ensure that you follow the Powerpoint and think about the previous learning which we've already completed in class on this topic. Make sure you take regular breaks!
In Literacy, know that you are already experts in editing your work. Remember to proofread first then edit for sense; punctuation and vocabulary. You can use online dictionaries and thesauruses, to support you with this. Also remember, to keep your joined handwriting neat.
Remember to check that you fully understand how to spell this week's spelling words.
In Spag, you will be using the Powerpoint to support your revision of 'formal and informal language.' You can also use your CGP books to support you with this.
The Music lesson, follows the work of 'Carole King' and will involve you listening and appraising her work. There is also a body percussion activity for you to complete after you have completed this.
PSHE Challenge - Friday:
Today, we would like all pupils to reflect on the week they have had.
What are you most proud of from this week?
What will you do differently next week?
Feel free to use the contact form, to share your learning.
I hope you have a good day and I will catch-up with you later.
Read for at least 20 minutes. This could be your school reading book, a home book, Bug Club or another text you enjoy. Identify any new and unknown vocabulary and find the definitions.
Complete the third section ('Sabryna and the River Spirit') of the reading comprehension test and mark it.
Complete the daily Joe Wicks (The Body Coach) PE lesson.
Visit his YouTube channel here:
Visit the White Rose Maths website here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/
Please complete Lesson Four (Using Scale Factors). You can watch the video first to help you, then complete the worksheet and mark it. If you are finding it difficult, re-watch the video or look for other online tutorials (Khan Academy and Mathantics are good places to start).
You should have now finished writing your flashback narrative. Today, you need to find a red pen (or another pencil/pen which is different to your original pen). Read through the whole text and carefully proof read it first. This means checking for any punctuation and spelling errors, sentences that don't make sense and silly mistakes. After you have proof-read and corrected your mistakes, you can now begin editing. This is where you read through and try to up-level your work. You may wish to add in more complex punctuation, improve your sentence openers or improve the quality of your dialogue, making sure that it advances the action in some way.
Practise your weekly spellings. Copy them into your home learning book and write their definitions.
Complete the SPaG activity below. There is a Powerpoint which you can work through to show you how to answer the questions. You can then work on the varied fluency questions. Select either 'Developing', 'Expected' or 'Greater Depth' depending on how confident you are with the topic. You can then mark your work and move onto the application and reasoning sheet.
Open the sheet below and read the instructions carefully. Complete the listening and appraising activity for the Carole King song, 'You've Got A Friend'.
