Gascoigne School welcomes children of all abilities and needs, and all pupils take an active part in all school life.
We have a Single Equality Plan which ensures that every student is provided with equal opportunity to access all aspects of our curriculum. We are confident that every pupil with special educational needs is provided with high quality teaching and educational support, which is individually tailored to ensure that they are able to make the best possible progress.
We work hard to ensure that our buildings are accessible to pupils, staff and visitors with physical disabilities and conduct a Disability Access Audit regularly.
For pupils with SEND the following admission arrangements are in place:
All pupils entering the nursery classes in September receive a home visit, during which you can discuss your child’s needs prior to them starting school. We have very good links with local preschools and other professionals such as health visitors and the portage service. Where other professionals or settings are already supporting your child, we can arrange to meet prior to admission in order to make plans and ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible. We will also provide this same support if your child is entering our reception class from another nursery, please contact the Senco if you would like to arrange this.
For pupils admitted to school midterm, please contact school in advance, the Sencos will be happy to meet with you, liaise with your current school or visit your child in their current school in order to make plans for their admission to Gascoigne.
If you child already has a Statement of Special Educational Needs, or an Education and Health Care Plan and you are arriving from another Local authority, you should contact the Special Educational Needs Assessment and Review Team, who will be able to help you to choose the best placement for your child.
More information about the local authorities provision for pupils with SEND can be found on Barking and Dagenham website.
