MONKEY MATHS LADDERS no

We encourage each pupil to take an active role in his/her own learning including the use of self-assessment. We use 'I can...'statements which are taken directly from the National Curriculum and are closely linked to a child's Personalised Coaching Folder (PCF). Below are some fun ladders to print off and these will serve as a reminder as to what has to be achieved by the end of each academic year. The majority of these statements are Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which focus upon knowledge and skills a child HAS to acquire CONSISTENTLY in order to be deemed to be working 'at the expected' standard for that particular Year Group.

IMPORTANT !!!!!!! LATEST NEWS FOR PARENTS AND PUPILS

In January, the Department for Education (DfE) announced that a new on-screen multiplication tables check is to be rolled out nationwide in 2017.

Every pupil will be expected to know their times tables up to 12x12 by the time they reach the end of primary school. This has been introduced in order to continue to improve standards. 1: 5 pupils still need to ensure they master the basics in maths and it is important that, as a school ,we are focusing on this crucial area.

Maths is a non-negotiable of a good education. As a school, it is important that we identify those pupils at risk of falling behind and target them before the end of Key stage 2. Indeed, it is a whole school responsibility which we are addressing.

This new test has been piloted in 80 primary schools. Pupils will be asked to give timed responses to a series of multiplication questions and the tests will be scored instantly, making them easier for teachers to deliver and providing them with an immediate snapshot of how pupils are performing. It is vital that our pupils perform well in all tests and they are fully prepared for the transition from primary to secondary school.

Below are the MINIMUM standards taken from the National Curriculum . We, at Gascoigne, want ALL our pupils to know ALL their tables by Year 4. It is important that parents work with us in order to achieve this goal. Below are some resources to encourage your child/ children to learn your tables. These will be updated at regular intervals so there is always new material available.

MINIMUM STANDARDS:

YEAR 1

Pupils need to solve one step problems involving multiplication and division by calculating the answer using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays with the support of the teacher.

YEAR  2

Pupils must recall and use multiplication and division facts for x2, x5 and x10.

YEAR 3

Pupils must recall and use multiplication and division facts for x3, x4 and x8.

YEAR 4

Pupils must recall and use multiplication and division facts for ALL tables up to 12 x 12.

YEARS 5/6

Pupils should know all multiplication and division facts. Speed and accuracy are essential particularly when applying facts to larger numbers.

Here are some multiplication grids/ tables for parents and pupils to download at home to support everyone in achieving our goal. Remember, we want everyone at Gascoigne to know their tables by the end of Year 4 !
Below are all the multiplication tables provided on individual pages in a bigger and bolder format which will support everyone in their learning/ memorisation of ALL the facts !!
Below are some multiplication sheets to support pupils in their learning of the tables. The first page on each pdf is for your child to complete. The second page includes an answer sheet to encourage parents to check their child's work together and to focus on those multiplication facts still not known.
Below are tests to encourage your child to learn his/ her multiplication tables. There are 40 quick recall facts on each sheet. Start off with 10 minutes and as your child increases in competency, then reduce the time. See if you can aim for a couple of minutes !! These tests will be updated regularly.
