Healthy Eating Week 2017

Healthy Eating Week takes place June 19th - June 23rd at Gascoigne Primary. Staff will be undertaking a variety of activities across the week. Below is a sample of some of the activities to be completed. We will also be involving parents/ carers so please keep an eye on our website and check your child's bag for further information next week !

Monday

Staff will be introducing the week with class assemblies though PowerPoint presentations. Each teacher will discuss the 5 key areas of the week: Breakfast, 5 A Day, Water, Get Active and Try Something New. Please discuss with your child/ children the importance of eating breakfast every morning.

Tuesday

The importance of 5 A DAY will be highlighted and linked to oral health. Pupils will also be discussing the many things we can do to keep our teeth healthy. We will also be linking our learning to 'The Food Pyramid' and from lunchtime today our MDAs are to be involved in lunchtime surveys for all classes.

Wednesday

The importance of water will be discussed and linked to the human body. We encourage our pupils to bring their own water bottles into school particularly as the weather is now turning warmer. It is important for our pupils not to become dehydrated. Please see 'The Drink Plenty' game below which you can download and play with your child/ children.

Thursday

'Shake and Wake' will play an important part of the day. Keep an eye out for further information from our P.E department. We will be encouraging pupils to think about the physical activities they participate in and what they can do in the future to improve their overall physical fitness and stamina. Staff have been encouraged to wear their sports attire on this day in order to further promote the importance of physical activity.

Friday

On Friday, every parent will be receiving a letter encouraging him/ her to try out a new recipe over the weekend. Class discussions will focus upon new activities that pupils would like to try. A class survey for the week will also be completed.

These are only examples of activities that will be going on across the week. Staff also have a wide range of additional resources which they can also incorporate into their teaching next week. Photographs will be taken and we are also encouraging parents to take photos of any activities linked to this week which they have tried with their child/ children. Please see further information below to support our 'Healthy Eating Week'. Thank you for your continuing support.
